We are delighted to welcome Lionel Smith-Gordon as our new Head of Client Services at REGnosys.
With a distinguished career spanning over 40 years, including senior roles at JPMorgan and IBM, Lionel brings a wealth of experience in financial services technology and operations.
Lionel has hit the ground running as we scale up our dedicated Client Services function to meet growing demand. As more buy and sell-side firms grapple with evolving regulatory requirements, we see demand for assistance in deploying ISDA’s DRR (Digital Regulatory Reporting) increase, and we offer best-in-class professional services so firms can leverage this technology to its fullest.
In the last year, Lionel has worked with REGnosys, where he was instrumental in enhancing the Common Domain Model (CDM), driving innovations across asset classes and regulatory reporting.
Congratulations, Lionel! We’re excited to see all the great things you’ll accomplish. Curious about Lionel's journey and his day-to-day, read more below.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at REGnosys
I have over four decades of experience in technology and operations in financial services, having spent most of my career at JPMorgan or IBM, working across Europe, the US and Asia.
I have been with REGnosys as a consultant for a year, delivering enhancements to the CDM (Common Domain Model) data model to increase its capabilities across a broader range of asset classes and use cases. Recently, I was asked by Leo to join the leadership team and create a new Client Services function, which I am delighted and extremely excited about.
What do you see as your main priority in your role?
As a new function, we need to scale up quickly to meet client demand. As a product company, we have been successfully delivering innovative solutions using the CDM, partnering with trade associations.
As more buy and sell-side firms grapple with regulatory requirements, we see demand for assistance in deploying DRR (Digital Regulatory Reporting) increase, and we offer best-in-class professional services so firms can utilise these capabilities.
A day in the life: what’s your typical working day like?
My role at REGnosys is part-time and I am lucky enough to have some additional engagements with other fintech and martech companies. So, my typical day is not typical but is defined by variety! Building relationships with all my clients, colleagues and stakeholders is critical so that, whether we are physically together or remote, we can communicate and collaborate seamlessly.
What is a cool project that you’re working on now?
I have completed a major project to enhance the CDM under a cross-industry initiative we called the Asset Refactoring Task Force. This will deliver support for a larger range of financial products, use cases and life-cycle events.
This has been great as I have had the opportunity to contribute enormously to a project that will have fundamental and long-lasting impact across the whole industry.
